MADE TO BECOME PART OF THE EVERYDAY

Common began with a study of ordinary objects: the plates, bowls, glasses, and utensils we reach for without thinking.

Rather than reinventing them, designer Yota Kakuda refined their essential forms—balancing proportion, durability, and ease of use to create pieces that feel immediately familiar.

The result is tableware designed not for a particular occasion, but for repeated daily use.

YOTA KAKUDA

Designing the ordinary well.

Tokyo-based designer Yota Kakuda approaches familiar objects with a focus on function, proportion, and longevity.

For Common, that meant stripping everyday tableware back to what matters: forms that are comfortable to use, easy to combine, and quiet enough to live with for years.

MADE IN JAPAN

One collection. Specialist makers.

Common brings together Japanese manufacturers with expertise in their respective materials.

The collection spans porcelain, glass, and metal, with production entrusted to makers and manufacturing regions known for those disciplines—including Toyo-Sasaki Glass for glassware and the metalworking region of Tsubame-Sanjo for cutlery.

The result is a unified collection made through different areas of Japanese manufacturing expertise.

BUILD A TABLE, NOT A SET

Common is sold by the piece.

Start with one plate. Add a bowl. Mix White with Indigo. Build four matching place settings—or don't.

The collection is designed to work as a system, giving you the freedom to choose the pieces your table actually needs.
