The Retrospekt CP-81 brings the cassette experience into a newly manufactured player with a transparent body and just the functions you need: play, fast-forward, rewind, and record. There are no apps, accounts, or updates—just a tape, a pair of headphones, and whatever you decided to listen to.
A microphone input allows you to record onto cassette, while the standard headphone jack works with the included Retrospekt RFH-01 headphones or your own compatible wired pair. Power it with two AA batteries when you’re on the move, or connect it through USB Type-C when you’re staying put.
Each CP-81 is individually inspected, tested, and calibrated by Retrospekt in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before it heads out into the world.

Yes. The CP-81 keeps the cassette experience intentionally simple, with play, fast-forward, rewind, and record functions in a newly manufactured player. Just insert a cassette, connect your headphones, press Play, and listen—no app, account, pairing, or software update required.
Cassette has its own distinctly analog character and won’t sound like lossless digital audio. That difference is part of the appeal: listening becomes a more tactile, deliberate experience. Your choice of headphones can also make a noticeable difference in playback quality.
Yes. The CP-81 has a record function and microphone input, allowing you to make recordings directly onto compatible cassette tapes.
Yes. The CP-81 includes Retrospekt RFH-01 headphones with an adjustable headband and orange foam cushions.
Yes. The standard 3.5 mm audio output works with most compatible wired headphones. It can also be connected by a standard 3.5 mm audio cable to compatible powered speakers, stereos, and other devices with an AUX input.
Use two AA batteries for portable listening or power the player through its USB Type-C input. Two AA batteries are included.
Retrospekt individually inspects, tests, and calibrates each CP-81 at its facility in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Playback operation is checked and tape-head alignment is adjusted when necessary before the player is sold.
New and vintage cassette releases are still widely available through record stores, independent music retailers, vintage shops, and online sellers. Hunting for the tapes is part of the fun.
The CP-81 is covered by Retrospekt’s limited 1-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, beginning on the original consumer purchase date.
